Release Mechanism - Document Creation & Candidate Solutions
Description
Responsible: @Abegail Gagelonia
Accountable: @Abegail Gagelonia, @Saksham Verma, @Ben Harbarenko
Consulted: @Alice Nguyen, @Ben Harbarenko, @Saksham Verma
Informed: Mechanical Team
What:
Primary task: Start a design document that will be the home for all preliminary design work pertaining to release mechanisms. A good reference for this will be this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Vou69ljq1GUpFDrU6DHUNywJiyDAEIo5eQMKR5CtUi8/edit
In this document please compile any EX3 requirements pertaining to release mechanisms (the requirements doc is pinned in the mechanical Slack) along with any other resources /references that are on the drive and may be relevant to this task. Do set-up a concise table in the document, where all this information can be clearly displayed. Lastly, please also share this document with Alice and Jack, since they will also be working on release mechanisms.
NOTE: The example above is a detailed design document, which is not expected for this stage of work on release mechanism, your document can be titled "Preliminary Design Document" for now.
Secondary task: If your availability permits, come up with a list of candidate solutions and write them down in a table in the doc that you are making. Find sources, attach the link, and give it a brief description.
We are open to new ideas and old ones.
Something similar to the Ex2 solution can be on the list and off the shelf solutions can also be on the list (consider sourcing several options online).
Consider categorizing similar solutions. Maybe there are many ways to do burn wires.
See if you can identify other options that have precedent in other missions.
In the future we can consolidate your findings and organize them in the resources section. I don't expect any deep digging into particular solutions / designing quite yet. More broad surface level work this week.
Why: Release mechanisms of EX2 are not a solution that can be directly replicated, we need to find better and more reliable solutions for EX3 to ensure proper deployment of components.
