To change or not to change the SNR requirement (SNR > 20 dB on each pixel), that is the question. Basically, to make optics design easier by increasing focal length and hence increasing the f/# of the system, we can ensure better GSD and spatial resolution, at the cost of SNR. Both spatial resolution and SNR are metrics of image quality, and they need to be balanced with each other.
