What:
Investigate Onshape as an alternative CAD solution to SolidWorks. I would like to know if SolidWorks parts or Assemblies can be easily ported over to Onshape without remaking the parts from scratch. I would like to know if feature history is preserved in transferring parts and assemblies to Onshape (I.e. does it just import a STL body or is information on the features constituting the SolidWorks file transfer in any capacity?). Make note of any major functional or procedural differences in generating parts and assemblies.
Why:
Onshape has convenient CAD management functionality which makes it appealing for AlbertaSat given how many members what to have CAD access. Presently SolidWorks is widely used and some parts have already been modeled to a high fidelity for EX3. Transitioning to Onshape would be much easier if these parts did not need to be re-modelled in Onshape.
